Finding Home (California Dreamin' - Book 1)

FINDING HOME is about moving forward, after losing, and finding that love does exist on the other side of heartbreak. It’s about having the courage to take down walls and follow your heart to your destiny. And it has just the right amount of steam and suspense to keep the readers turning the pages!

Avery Scott is the quintessential Midwestern girl, her life revolves around making her family happy and being a good wife, daughter, and friend. After a nasty divorce, she knows now is the time to live for herself for once. Before she can change her mind, she relocates to San Diego. She knows there may be one nuisance in her new adventure, in the form of the mysterious Damien Focelli, but she’s done letting fear (or a man) lead her life. Little does she realize, Damien is the key to releasing the real Avery.

Damien Focelli has spent the last four years in a downward spiral after the loss of his daughter in a tragic car accident. A moment of divine intervention helps him put the bottle down and begin to live again. After years of not feeling, the feisty Avery Scott ignites something within him. While he tries to show her he is a man of his word, he also has to keep a secret - a secret that could put both their lives in danger.

When these two have a second chance encounter, Damien doesn’t want to blow it, even though he can see Avery’s walls from miles away. Avery’s been charmed before so her trust in men is nil, but there is something about Damien that makes her feel safe. Before these two can build anything lasting though a stalker will try to stop them from going any further. Their happiness depends on believing more in their love than the fears that could destroy everything.

Melissamax via Amazon:  5 out of 5 Stars - Unable to put this great book down!! Finding Home by Amy O'Neill is such a fantastic read from beginning to end! If you have ever loved and lost ---only to think you would never find love again.....READ THIS BOOK!!! Such a great story that we all can again find lasting love. Amy has written such a touching inspiration and truly from the heart.

Cindy Patterson via SMASHWORDS: 4 out of 4 Stars -  Really enjoyed this book. I don't usually go for contemporary romance but found that the author has a talent for fully developing her characters. I understood their actions in terms of motivation and as a result, this was an enjoyable read. Note that the editing could be a little tighter at the beginning, but by Chapter 3 things were going well and I no longer noticed. I would definitely buy another book by Amy O'Neill.

Michelle via GOODREADS: 1 out of 5 Stars - Predictable and dull. Full of spelling errors, at times I couldn't tell what the sentence was supposed to mean because there were extra words. Far too much detail in the decor of the rooms, I don't care what color the throw pillows are. The characters were not believable at all. It's a good thing I won this book through a Goodreads Giveaway, if I had spent money on it I would have been upset.  UPDATE:  So, I passed this book along to a friend and she completely LOVED it. She was obsessed with the characters, cried while reading it, and is already reading it a second time. Thought I'd add this to my review cause it's always a good feeling when a book finds a loving home

Playing with Fire (California Dreamin' - Book 2)

PLAYING WITH FIRE follows the intertwining paths of Noelle Dupree and Trent Torres.  Noelle is on the run from the abusive ex-boyfriend she left behind in Arkansas .  She's got a personality to match her fiery red hair and though on the outside she seems like a bit of a tomboy, underneath that exterior is a passionate woman yearning to be released.  Life has never been easy for her, but Noelle is fighting mad and is not about to let anyone stop her from finding the peacefulness she craves.

Enter Officer Trent.  Trent has been a ladies' man for the better part of his life and settling down always seemed too constricting to him.  But that was before his best friend, Damien, got married and Trent felt maybe he was missing out on something after all.  He comes from a large Hispanic family, that at times can be overbearing, but they mean well, even if they try to set him up at every opportunity.

Trent has seen Noelle before - on the day of his best friend's wedding.  That flaming hair and creamy skin somehow stuck with him, so when a breaking and entering call puts her as the lead suspect, he struggles with doing his duty and letting her get away.

Noelle doesn't like cops, where she comes from they're corrupt and never did anything to stop her ex's violence toward her - of course it didn't help his father was the sheriff and just as abusive.  But when Noelle meets Trent , it isn't his ability to uphold the law that she doesn't trust, it's the pounding in her heart and the thoughts running through her head that make her back away.

Noelle doesn't have a choice to stay away from Officer Torres too long when her ex shows up with revenge on his mind.   Trent isn’t about to let someone hurt any woman, let alone one so full of life.   He’s got to show Noelle that he’s willing to give his life to protect her and he hopes she’ll give him forever.
